I was shot dead
for the five
bucks of crack I’d
just bought. They
buried me, an
indigent,
in Potter’s Field.
That was fine.
It was just what
I had earned.
But then they sold
the graveyard
to a bigshot
real estate
developer
to build a
big shopping mall.
It came out
in the papers
that the deal
was illegal
somehow. It
was a giant
scandal and
they were forced to
pay to move
all the corpses
to new graves
Which is how I
ended up
here, in the same
ground where they
put that banker
and his wife,
you know, the ones
that always
were on TV.
Lucky me!
