Howard, the Station Boss

Howard, the Station BossEverybody clamors
for the truth.
I could give it to you in
any way you
pleased. We liked to deride
those who claimed
truth was purely subjective
as being French
Communists. But really,
they were our
best friends. My job was to
manufacture
truth, to serve whoever
was pulling
the strings. If the Mayor stayed
in office, if
Deegan’s profits stayed fat,
and if my
ratings remained high, I was
secure. I knew
enough to bring them all
down. But why
in the world would I? Besides,
none of you want
to know where the bodies
are buried.
And democracy is just
for schoolchildren
